Flying Doghouse

I just remembered that I always liked the Snoopy flying sequences in Charlie Brown.

Sunflower

It's starting to get a little hot and muggy now, but I still like to see the sunshine.

Dude

Skipped another post, I did. You see, I was house-sitting and couldn't access the interwebz. It was kinda nice though. Computers can take up so much time so easily.

Layered House

ATTENTION! I will be gone on a vacation thingy for a few days, so for the 2.5 people that follow this blog there won't be any updates for a bit. We ask that you please bear with us.

Disclaimer

The faith and healing subject is always interesting; trying to find a balance between believing for the gift of health and knowing God doesn't always answer our prayers like we wish.

Sighting

I don't think I have anything to add to this one.

Body Image

Seems like most people aren't totally happy when they look in the mirror. It's not just the "industry's" fault, of course (though I like to take jabs at it). We'll forever play the comparison game. There's always going to be someone nearby who makes you feel ugly by comparison.
I usually think of conceited beautiful people when I hear the word "vain," but if I'm always worrying about my looks and comparing myself to others, I think that's a type of vanity. Plus, I'm ignoring where my worth really comes from. There's a healthy balance to be struck between being a good steward of what you've been given, but not becoming obsessed with it. The Bible tells us to celebrate beauty, but not bow down to it. Noble character is to be praised.

I used to despise the "true beauty is on the inside" mantra. But the older you get, the easier it is to call everyone beautiful. And hopefully to let people say that about yourself. I know one thing for sure: I am thankful to have two arms and two legs, and fully functioning senses!

Kooky Talk

While I don't encourage talking to imaginary friends, you don't have to be crazy to do it. Sharing personal, inner thoughts with another human; now there's a crazy idea! But seriously, people talk to animals all the time, and animals certainly can't comprehend what we say.* They are sensitive to our moods however, and that counts for something. (It counts for a lot, actually. I'm reminded of those horse ranches that minister to troubled and disabled children. Some really neat stories come out of those places.)

*Edit: Aside from Balaam's donkey. =P

Catchwords

Yes, I've actually been sick of "straw man" for some time now. I shouldn't let others ruin words for me, but yowza some people really like that term. I think they use it just so they don't have to counter an argument. It seems as though some folks try to inflate their views with flashy terms and relevant catch phrases, to try to sound more scholarly. And then someone else will come along and state something simply and to the point, with much greater impact. At least, that's my opinion as a silent observer. A scarecrow, who desires a brain. (Heehee, I kid.)

Judging Judgments

Some people like to be a verse-dropper when it comes to Matthew 7:1. I guess it's used more in defensiveness rather than relevance, but hey, at least they've got it memorized. We all make judgments. We just don't like it when others do. Bunch of intolerant hypocrites!

We know the motives behind our own "just" intentions, but sometimes when it comes to others all we hear are their words, and don't know the thought process (or life struggle) that led to those words. Doesn't mean they're right in what they say, but maybe the issue is a little deeper. You can hear the same neutral statement from two different people, but it sounds positive coming from one and negative coming from the other. You'll excuse one person saying it, but file it away in your vengeful memory for the other. We've got people pegged. That kind of internal judgment leads to worse problems that mere vocal accusations. Only love breaks that cycle.

Of course, some of the things people say are extremely foolish, and should be shot down. Foolishness cultivates where allowed. Other things are just smoke, and should be ignored. But don't forget we can always spread good words of encouragement. Being a weed killer isn't nearly as effective as being a sweet-smelling rose. I seem to forget that at least once a day.

T.M.I.

Don't ask me where this one came from. It's certainly not from personal experience.

Mirror Counselor

Another self-centered comic. Well, it seems like I either say too little or, if something sets me off, too much. Of those two things, it's better just to be quiet.

Dreams

Do you ever fantasize about doing something crazy in the middle of a crowded mall just to see what people's reaction would be? Breaking into song and dance, turning somersaults, talking loudly with your hand like it's a puppet? There's no rule against doing that, but there's no way anyone would willingly do it unless they're on a hidden camera show (even those make me nervous to watch). It would definitely entertain everyone around you, at least.

I guess that's what dreams are for. Sometimes I'll be in a dream and feel no inhibitions whatsoever, and just do something crazy. Most of the time it's not foolish stuff, but stuff I wouldn't normally do in real life. Like getting on a stage and doing a funny skit, or some karaoke. Things that involve being in front of other people or just talking openly with them. But dreams let you do a lot of other cool stuff too. Surfing, skydiving, traveling to different lands. I think it's funny how I do a lot of "firsts" in my dreams, even though my imagination has nothing genuine to work from. Oh well, for now I'll take what I can get. But some dreams are just plain WEIRD. They're so weird even I don't know what to say. You can't make that kind of stuff up...and yet you did!

Of course, dreams also have me doing things I don't want to do, which is strange. Like getting into fights. Some random person in my dream will start harassing me, and I'll tell them to shut up, and then we just start fighting until I wake up. Sometimes I'll even beat them and wake up feeling satisfied. Perhaps this is a way for me to win and feel in control, after going through times in life where I've felt like a victim. Involuntary self therapy. Well, I much prefer the dreams where I'm flying!

Okay, dear diary, that's enough.
