Some people like to be a verse-dropper when it comes to Matthew 7:1. I guess it's used more in defensiveness rather than relevance, but hey, at least they've got it memorized. We all make judgments. We just don't like it when others do. Bunch of intolerant hypocrites!
We know the motives behind our own "just" intentions, but sometimes when it comes to others all we hear are their words, and don't know the thought process (or life struggle) that led to those words. Doesn't mean they're right in what they say, but maybe the issue is a little deeper. You can hear the same neutral statement from two different people, but it sounds positive coming from one and negative coming from the other. You'll excuse one person saying it, but file it away in your vengeful memory for the other. We've got people pegged. That kind of internal judgment leads to worse problems that mere vocal accusations. Only love breaks that cycle.
Of course, some of the things people say are extremely foolish, and should be shot down. Foolishness cultivates where allowed. Other things are just smoke, and should be ignored. But don't forget we can always spread good words of encouragement. Being a weed killer isn't nearly as effective as being a sweet-smelling rose. I seem to forget that at least once a day.
